Denetta atteneded the Ushingi community music group at Opera North as a guest facilitator in January 2024. The workshop she ran was excellent and incredbily well recieived by the group. The practices Denetta used were highly inclusive and perfect for our group, most of whom have experience of the asylum system and are of very mixed ability. Not only were the workshops fantastic, but Denetta's character and personality shone through and were absolutely perfect for running workshops of this type and making others feel safe to make their music. We all had so much fun and were laughing so much our faces hurt by the end! I would highly recommend working with Denetta to anyone! Five massive stars! –

We have been thrilled to have Denetta join our teaching team for Get Your Act Together - our music courses for young people aged 11 - 18. In just a few months of working together, she has already brought so much to Cloth Cat and to the students on our rap workshops. Denetta's teaching style is engaging and effective. In June 2017, I attended Denetta’s workshops on how to write your own rap song that was delivered as part of a literature festival, a funded community project at New Wortley community centre. I had been a previous workshop on writing rap and I found Denetta’s methods for teaching were far more engaging. She has a unique way of encouraging people’s personal stories from them and building their confidence. I have dyslexia and other in the mixed group were vulnerable and had learning needs. Denetta responded with empathy and shared her own personal experiences, making us comfortable to share ours. Not only did I write a rap song, we all got up and performed it in a showcase night! Being able to empower anyone to perform their own work is a very special thing.
